• Leather, footwear and allied sector have faced negative trend (-17%) in export compare to last financial year and -24% compare to strategic target.
• Share of Leather (HS 41) goes down 4% compare to Last year.
• Leather footwear (HS code 6403) still bagged maximum share of export value (45%), though it is 2% less compare to last year.
• Other footwear jumped 5% compare to LY and ended 26% of sectoral share. 21% was in LY.
• Leather product keep stable sectoral share compare LY.

Summary

• Leather export has faced most negative trend among other type in sector, -40% reduction compare to last financial year and to strategic target.
• Share of Leather (HS 41) goes down 4% compare to Last year.
• Before COVID hit, it’s already was in negative trend compare to target and LY result but COVID hit was enormous for this segment
• Reason of this huge reduction not only for COVID but also for wrong policy / bad impression on leather pollution / delay of installation ETP in new tannery area

• 67% of full year export was bagged before COVID hit in the world, whereas only 33% export happened after COVID (Jan-Jun 2020).
• Reason of this impact long time

Jan-Mar: It mainly impacted for imported   country condition, 2 top country to export   Bangladesh leather are China and HongKong.

After Mar: Bangladesh industry lockdown   impact huge in export.

• Leather product segment export has faced also negative trend but less compare to other 2 leather segment. -11% reduction compare to last financial year and to strategic target.
• Share of Leather product (HS 42) slightly go up 1% compare to Last year.
• Before COVID hit, it was doing excellent and bagged 104 index compare to target and 108 compare to LY.  COVID impact overall year performance.

• Leather footwear was second worst among leather segment of this sector, -30% reduction compare to target and -21% compare last financial year.
• Share of Leather footwear (HS 6403) goes down 2% compare to Last year.
• Before COVID hit, it’s already was in negative trend compare to target and LY result but COVID hit was strong for this segment

• 59% of full year export was bagged before COVID hit in the world, whereas 41% export happened after COVID (Jan-Jun 2020).
• Impact for COVID mainly lies on April as USA and Europe (biggest export market) impacted those time.

• Other footwear export has faced some turbulence due to COVID hit but still one of best performer in the sector. -13% reduction compare to strategic target but +2% compare to last financial year.
• Share of other footwear (HS 64) goes up 5% compare to Last year.
• Before COVID hit, it was doing excellent and bagged 101 index compare to target and 124 compare to LY. COVID impact overall year performance.
