A six-member delegation from the Hong Kong Shoe Association recently visited Bangladesh Shoe City Limited in Gazipur to explore investment opportunities in Bangladesh’s footwear sector. The delegation, led by association president Eddie Lam, examined the industrial and factory facilities and discussed potential direct investment and joint-venture opportunities.
The visit also involved discussions with the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and the Footwear, Leather Goods and Accessories Exporters Association (FLAXA). BIDA highlighted government support for investors, including assistance with export-related matters and the proposed establishment of a central bonded warehouse at Shoe City. Following the discussions, the Hong Kong Shoe Association and Bangladesh Shoe City signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at future business cooperation and investment.
The development is significant for Bangladesh’s footwear industry as increased foreign investment and joint ventures could bring new capital, technology, international market connections and production opportunities to the sector.
